It all started in 1955 when founders J.C., Mary Jane, and Robert C. Carson leveraged their hands-on experience from the Netawaka Mutual Telephone Company to establish JBN Telephone Company, Inc. Their vision was simple but powerful: to provide essential, reliable communications to their neighbors.
From those early telephone exchanges, JBN grew steadily. Today, we operate 15 exchanges providing voice and high-speed Internet across the region, a testament to our enduring commitment. In 2012, we made a landmark investment by launching fiber-to-the-home service, bringing future-proof connectivity to the rural communities that need it most.
A new chapter began in 1997 with the launch of Giant Communications, a competitive local exchange carrier born from JBN and our parent company, Lynch Corporation. What began as a resale telephone operation quickly evolved into a comprehensive provider of modern digital services.
We expanded our “buffet” to include cable TV, business solutions, and most importantly, blazing-fast broadband Internet. From our hub in Holton, Giant Communications now serves more than 27 communities.

Expanded into hosted business phone services, backed by our investment in the robust Kansas Fiber Network.
Lit up Topeka with 28 miles of new fiber and opened a downtown sales office, cementing our investment in the capital city’s growth. We’ve since expanded that network to over 40 miles.
We continue to build for tomorrow by expanding our fiber footprint, increasing our minimum speed to 100 Mbps, launching Giant TV Now streaming, and making multi-gigabit Internet a reality for homes and businesses across Kansas.
